Georgetown’s trip to New York for the Big East Tournament looks like a stroll around the block compared to the journey awaiting the team this summer.
On Tuesday Georgetown announced it will tour China from Aug. 14-27. The team will split time between Bejing and Shanghai for a variety of activities including three to four exhibition games. Opponents haven’t been determined.
“This trip marks and opportunity for us to deepen our engagement in China by incorporating athletics into our effort,” Georgetown president John DeGioia said in a release. “Our outreach to with China is designed to promote dialouge and understanding across cultures.”
Teams can take foreign tours once every four years. That includes 10 extra practices. And after the NCAA tweaked foreign tour rules last year, incoming freshmen are eligible to play.
