If you’re like me and use Google’s Gmail service, you’ve probably noticed the new “themes” that you can use to spruce up the look of your inbox. At the moment, most of the themes are generic designs from Google, with some neat color combinations and a few landscape-type scenes.

But what if you could have a theme with the colors and logo of your favorite sports team? Seems like that would be possible, especially since there are already countless sports themes tied to the Firefox Web browser.

I asked Google whether they’d be allowing sports-related Gmail themes.

“The themes that you may have seen in your Gmail account are the ones that are currently available,” a spokesman said. “We don’t have any plans to announce right now regarding user creation of themes, but we are always looking for ways to improve our product.”

The Capitals were one of the first teams to roll out a Firefox theme a couple years ago. Sean Parker, the team’s director of new media, said there were no immediate plans to design a Gmail theme, but that they are working on some new intitiatives related to email in general.

Mark it down…sports-related Gmail themes will happen. And when they do, I fully expect Google to give me 100 percent of all associated revenue for coming up with the idea.
