D.C. United co-owner Erick Thohir’s influence extended directly to the team’s personnel Friday, with the club’s signing of 20-year-old Indonesian midfielder Syamsir Alam on loan from Belgian side C.S. Vise.
Alam, a native of Thohir’s hometown of Jakarta, has represented Indonesia on the international stage from the under-11 level through the U-23s. He previously spent time with Atletico Penarol in Uruguay and top-flight Dutch clubs SC Heerenveen and Vitesse.
“Syamsir is a young, attacking midfielder with good technical ability, and we look forward to having him on loan with us,” said United general manager Dave Kasper in a statement.
