After a nearly yearlong absence, D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid is back with the U.S. national team.

The 22-year-old, who in 2012 compiled eight shutouts in 24 regular-season games, made his only international appearance last January in a 1-0 win over Venezuela.

The 25-man roster announced Sunday will begin training Monday in Carson, Calif., ahead of a friendly against Canada on Jan. 29 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. The U.S. opens the final stage of World Cup qualifying in CONCACAF on Feb. 6 at Honduras.

United midfielder-forward Chris Pontius on Sunday tweeted he withdrew from the camp because of a groin injury suffered in November.
