Phil Mickelson turned 41 on Thursday, and one of golf’s biggest stars is nearing that age where it’ll be tough for him to contend for too many more major championships.

Any opportunity at this U.S. Open went out the window rather quickly. Mickelson put his first shot of the week and went on to finish 7-over for the tournament. It was an even-par 71 performance in the final round that kept it from being worse.

It was only apropos that on his final hole Sunday, Mickelson got himself out of the bunker and into the water, bogeying the 18th at Congressional. It was simply one of those weeks.
