As people all over the world watched in horror the death of the young Iraninan woman, Neda Soltan,  “The Stoning of Soraya M.” was a film which could not be released at a more perfect time.

Based on a true story and set in 1986, when Soraya refuses to divorce her husband after he falls in love with a 14-year old girl, he schemes with a local mullah to accuse Soraya of cheating on him.  While there is no proof of her husband’s accusation, Soraya is sentenced to death by stoning.  The chilling scene of Soraya’s stoning is said to be haunting and is sure to strike a chord with audiences as Neda’s death has for web users from all over the world.  The movie opens in select theaters in various cities this weekend.
