UPDATE: Heene was asked about his son’s response on CNN by a local Colorado NBC news station:

Heene was asked about the possibility it was a hoax because of what his 6-year-old son, Falcon, had said earlier during a CNN interview. In the interview, when Falcon was asked why he didn’t come out when he heard his parents calling for him, he said he was because it was “for the show.”

“Perhaps he was talking about these guys out here, I don’t know. They were asking him a million questions,” Richard Heene said. “I thought he was talking about when the garage door opened up, all the media was standing there and he was showing them how he got in, I thought that’s what he was talking about.”

Could the story of an empty hot air balloon chased by national media turn out to be more hot-air than just a simple misunderstanding? Six-year old Falcon Heene of Fort Collins, Colorado was thought to be whisked away in a homemade hot air balloon made by his family.  When he was later found in the garage of the family home following the landing of the balloon and it’s empty basket, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer interviewed the boy and his father.

Falcon gave his reason for not coming out when called by his father. “They did this for the show,” said the six-year old boy during the interview. According to the Associated Press, Mr. Heene has already denied that the incident was a publicity stunt,:

Richard Heene adamantly denied the notion that the whole thing was a big publicity stunt. “That’s horrible after the crap we just went through. No.”

The CNN video of the Heene family interview is below along with a partial transcript for you to decide if Falcon let any cat out of the bag.

RICHARD HEENE: Did you hear us calling your name at anytime?

(Falcon nods)

RICHARD HEENE: You did?

MYUMI HEENE: You did?

RICHARD HEENE: Then Why didn’t you come out?

FALCON HEENE: You guys said that umm..we did this for a show.

RICHARD HEENE: Yeah.

MYUMI HEENE: No.

RICHARD HEENE: You didn’t come out?

FALCON HEENE: No.
