SANCHEZ: It’s interesting, because there are 89 new Republican members. About 80 of them defeated incumbent Democrats, so I always approach this as they won an election the same way I did. Those things are tough to win. To be a member of the House there are three requirements: You have to be a citizen for at least seven years, . you have to be at least age 25, and you have to win an election. The tough part is winning an election. Okay, so I give them credit for winning an election.

SANCHEZ: They came here the same way I did. So I’m going over and I’m sitting down with them. I’m introducing myself.  I’m visiting with them. I’m trying to get…you know you have to form relationships in order for you to able pass legislation. But out of their mouths it continues to be the same thing: ‘It’s unconstitutional.’ Everything to them is unconstitutional. ‘It’s unconstitutional.’ ‘It’s unconstitutional.’ ‘It’s unconstitutional.’

MILLER: I don’t know how you start a conversation with some of these tea party people. ‘Sanchez, can I see your papers? I don’t believe you’re a Congresswoman. Can I see your birth certificate?

SANCHEZ: Uhhh…yeah…C’mon, now. I know how to get along with people. I start joking. I say, ‘Hey, what’s you’re name?’…’My name is Moe.’ …’O.K. Moe…Moester. How are you doing, baby? What are we going to be doing baby? What are you moving on? What’s your interest? What can we work on together? ……(in a southern accent) ‘Well, Loretta it’s unconstitutional.’ And, um…you try your best.
