“I’m more than happy to sit next to Mr. Hoyer. I wasn’t informed as such, but thank you for informing me,” said House Majority leader Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican, to a reporter who asked if House Minority Leader Steny Hoyer, Maryland Democrat, would be Mr. Cantor’s next door seat mate at the State of the Union Address.

“Maybe the sitting thing is a first step,” he conceded when asked if the SOTU seating of different party members next to one another was purely cosmetic but could lead to more substantive actions between the parties.

Mr. Cantor also revealed that Mr. Hoyer has reached out to him and both leaders will be having lunch tomorrow.
