State of the Union 2011 Live Blog

9:13 P.M. - President Obama acknowledges Gabrielle Giffords’s absence and the Tucson shooting tragedy

9:14 P.M. - President Obama receives his first standing ovation of the evening over his indication that it is more important to stand together than just sitting together tonight. The sitting together thing proved to be just another gimmick and my understanding is that most lawmakers thought it was pretty useless.

9:17 P.M - President Obama is talking about people struggling in this economy where “the rules have changed in the middle of the game” Mr. Obama perhaps should have thought about that before he supported the stimulus package in during the last SOTU.

9:24 P.M. - Wait Obama is talking about the greatness of NASA and Sputnik? Didn’t the Democrats just cut the NASA budget for the moon mission? 9:34 P.M.- Obama to the children- Become a teacher. The country needs you (translation: Join the Union, the Democrats need you.)

9:42 P.M. - Obama calls for a high speed rail in the next 25 years. 9:45 P.M -Obama sys he is willing to change 1099 measure in healthcare law but nothing much else.

9:47 P.M.- Obama on health care law - “Let’s fix what needs fixing and let’s move forward.” that may not be enough, though for those who want to see the alw repealed, and the president does not seem up for another health care debate. He knows its a loser for Democrats.

9:53 P.M. - This SOTU seems more like a campaign 2012 kickoff for the president than anything else.
