The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee really stepped in it this time. In an attempt to make a political ad against Republican Bob Turner, who is running for former New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner’s old seat in the 9th Congressional District, the DCCC’s choice of imagery and and timing comes off as more offensive to New Yorkers than anything else. (H/T NY Observer)

“It’s obviously in very poor taste, but this isn’t surprising coming from the DCCC,” said Rep. Michael Grimm, New York Republican, when I asked him to give his thoughts about the ad. 

No stranger to DCCC attacks himself, Mr. Grimm went after the Democrats for the ad.  

“(The DCCC) haven’t been honest. They blatantly distort the facts. They mislead the American public. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised by anything they do,” he said.

Three days before the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the DCCC released a web ad attacking Mr. Turner’s comments regarding the U.S. tax code. The ad shows a plane with Bob Turner’s name on it flying near the New York City skyline with the word “loopholes” embedded in the sky.  

“This distasteful ad is just more of the same and par for the course, and I’ve been extremely disappointed in what I’ve seen from them and they continue to hit new lows almost on a daily basis. They’re desperate and they’re acting desperate”

 Realizing what a stupid move this was, the DCCC eventually pulled the ad from You Tube early Thursday evening. Congressman Grimm, however, is not that forgiving of the DCCC on this. 

“As a 9/11 first responder, I can tell you that you can’t probably get more distasteful than an ad like that and someone who reviewed it along the way should have been able to figure it out.” 

Indeed. Stay classy, Democrats.
