The Overseas Security Advisory Council Bureau posted information from Security IT Magazine SC confirming that the Vienna based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was recently hacked by a group calling itself as Parastoo:
The Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which reports to the U.N. about nuclear cooperation among nations, confirmed the breach, according to a Tuesday Reuters article. On Sunday, a hacker collective calling itself “Parastoo” published the stolen data on Pastebin, which included email addresses of more than 100 individuals who work with the watchdog group.
Hackers asked the owners of the e-mail addresses belonging to the IAEA to sign a petition for the agency to launch an investigation into Israel’s Dimona nuclear reactor.
Parastoo’s dispatch included a message saying: “Israel owns a practical nuclear arsenal tied to a growing military body and it is not a member of internationally respected nuclear, biochemical and chemical agreements.”
Parasatoo also threatened to post additional information regarding the individuals mentioned in the dispatch. Although it is unclear as to who is behind the cyberattack, SC Magazine, notes that “Parastoo” is a common Iranian girl’s name. Iran is currently determined to get hold of a nuclear weapon, while the United States and Israel have taken steps over the years to make sure that does not happen.
According to Reuters, an IAEA spokeswoman said that the information was stolen from a server that was shut down “some time ago.”
