The Wizards have announced a new D-League affiliation with the Iowa Energy. The Wizards were previously affiliated with the Dakota Wizards since the 2006-07 season, who were recently purchased by the Golden State Warriors. The Iowa Energy will also be connected to the Chicago Bulls and the New Orleans Hornets.

The National Basketball Association’s Developmental League [NBDL], more commonly referred to as the D-League, serves as a type of minor league for NBA players, allowing NBA teams to call up players as needed, or send players down if they need more playing time that they can’t get with their NBA squads.

The Wizards filled out their roster last season with such D-League call-ups as Othyus Jeffers, Cartier Martin and Mustafa Shakur.

According to league sources, even though the the NBA in now in a lockout, neither the WNBA teams or the D-League teams seasons will be affected.
