The NBA has suspended Wizards rookie point guard John Wall for one game without pay for his altercation with Miami Heat center Zydrunas Ilgauskas during Wednesday night’s game. Ilgauskas and Heat forward Juwan Howard both received fines, but were not suspended.
Ilgauskas was fined $25,000 and Howard was fined $35,000. The disciplinary action was released in a statement by NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson.
The incident occurred in the second quarter of the Wizards vs. Heat game Wednesday night at Verizon Center when Ilgauskas elbowed Wall twice and caught him near the face. Wall reacted by swinging back at Ilgauskas.
Howard became involved in the melee when he pushed Wizards center JaVale McGee who was coming to Wall’s defense. Wall, Ilgauskas and Howard all received Flagrant Two technical fouls and were ejected from the game.
Wall will serve his suspension on Friday and will miss the Wizards game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
