On any normal day, the Wizards would have held practice at Verizon Center on Monday morning, then left by charter in the afternoon for a game the following day. But Monday was hardly a normal day. Hurricane Sandy made certain of that.
Instead, the team cancelled Monday’s practice and left around 8 a.m. from Dulles airport just in time to avoid the approaching storm.
The Wizards will open the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena. The Wizards finished the preseason with record of 3-5. The Cavaliers went 3-4.
Hurricane Sandy will have come and gone when Wizards host the Boston Celtics in their home opener on Sat. Nov. 3 at Verizon Center.
