I just wanted to take a minute to wish good ol’ Joseph Szadkowski and Zadzooks the best of luck with the clever new community which is sure to bring additional fun and excitement to the web.
— Stan Lee
Welcome to the Zadzooks community, a place in cyberspace devoted to my addiction to pop art, pixels and molded plastic. I know, it’s already a bit cluttered, but I call it a very colorful home.
Instead of babbling on why I exist, here’s some relevant history.
Yes, I still own my first action figure (Mom never threw out anything). It’s the famed Mattel astronaut from the 1960s, Major Matt Mason.
Yes, I still own my original Pong console, and it works. I also have a Magnavox Odyssey 2 system squirreled away somewhere, and it looks as good as new.
Yes, I have in my possession a slightly beat-up copy of the very first issue of The X-Men (the 1963 one), signed by Stan the Man, no less.
I also have been writing about comic books, video games and action figures for The Washington Times for the past 19 years.
Other than refurbishing lightsabers for the Jedi Council or being Vanessa Kensington’s bodyguard, it’s the best gig on the planet.
I currently have a couple of partners in crime helping to add to the Zadzooks community.
Greg Bennett, an owner of Big Planet Comics, offers Bennett’s Best, his hot comic-book picks for the week.
And, Sideshow Collectibles’ production manager, Scott Klauder, occasionally will discuss his fascination with the action figure and its place in popular culture.
So that’s the rub, Daddy-O. What’s your role in this galaxy?
Participate early and often, simple enough?
Also, here’s a rundown on some of the cooler stuff hidden in this community.
If you are not already on my Zadzooks main Community area, then get there and look for a little area at the bottom of the page called “Media.” Click on the photo to see a slideshow of images near and dear to my heart. I hope to update the image a couple of times a week, so watch the selection grow.
Next, take a look at “Videos Here.” I am not Edward R. Murrow or Steven Spielberg, but I do offer some video nuggets worth a look.
Rounding out places on the page is “Related News,” which covers what I am writing about in the print edition of The Washington Times; an Events calendar; and a big, empty gray area called “Tips and Advice” (I’m not sure yet what to do with it).
Also, remember, click on smaller photos embedded in the stories. Sometimes I offer an enlarged image so that you can appreciate the artist.
Remember, Zadzooks is an online adventure that requires visitor participation. Please register on The Washington Times site and join in.
Below is a taste of the fun I had at the recent New York Comic Con in both video and slideshow forms.
