Legendary comic book store owner Greg Bennett provides a pair of recommendations for comic book lovers every week. Titles are either currently on specialty store shelves or shipping or in the near future. Fans can also click on the covers to appreciate the fine art.

Parker: The Hunter from Idea & Design Works LLC

Parker: The Hunter, hardcover, Idea & Design Works LLC, $24.99

Good news—Darwyn (JLA: New Frontier) Cooke is back in action! Everyone’s favorite Batman-animator-turned-comic-book-artist takes a break from the super-heroes, in order to bring us his stunning adaptation of Richard Stark’s first hard-boiled Parker novel. For those who are more movie-oriented than book-oriented, Parker is Lee Marvin in Point Blank or Mel Gibson in the director’s cut of Payback (not the theatrical version—it sucked). Amazing book—check it out!

Dethklok vs. The Goon from Dark Horse Comics

Dethklok vs. The Goon, one shot, Dark Horse Comics, $3.50

Not Deathlok the Marvel character, it’s Dethklok, everyone’s favorite animated Scandinavian Metal band, from Metalocalypse! Turns out that series director Jon Schnepp is a big fan of The Goon, and Eric (The Goon) Powell, is a huge Metalocalypse fan. Put ‘em together, and In the words of Dethklok, “We has comes to make crossovers metal”. If you’re a bigger cartoon fan than comic fan, ask your retailer if they have any of the Schnepp variant cover left.

Greg Bennett is the Owner/Manager of Big Planet Comics, a chain of pop art specialty stores in the DC Metro area with locations in Georgetown, Bethesda, Vienna, & College Park.
