Bob Claunch was born in San Antonio, Texas, and now lives in Diamondhead, Miss. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Texas A&M University.

He is a registered professional engineer. He was a commissioned officer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1949 to 1950 and from 1951 to 1953.

He and his wife, Louise, have three children.

Bob Claunch is running as a Reform Party candidate in the 2012 race for south Mississippi's 4th Congressional District seat. He is one of three candidates challenging freshman Republican Rep. Steven Palazzo.

According to the Federal Election Commission website, Claunch had not filed a campaign finance report as of June 30, 2012.

He was a Reform Party candidate for Congress in 1998 in what was then Mississippi's 5th Congressional District. Mississippi lost a House seat after the 2000 census, and the current 4th District incorporates the former 5th District, plus some extra territory.

Claunch ran unsuccessfully as a Reform Party candidate for Mississippi agriculture commissioner in 2003.
