FILE - In this Oct. 11, 2012, file photo, U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., speaks at a news conference outside the entrance to Scott Air Force Base in Mascoutah, Ill. A letter from Veterans Affairs officials to two U.S. senators disclosed that problems with delayed care and unauthorized wait lists existed at several veterans hospitals in the Midwest. They include two hospitals serving veterans from southwestern Illinois, in Marion and St. Louis. Shimkus says just days ago officials at both facilities had assured him there were no such problems and that the letter raises questions. (AP Photo/Belleville News-Democrat, Derik Holtmann, File)
