In this June 21, 1972 file photo, Sen. George McGovern, Democratic presidential candidate, has breakfast with his daughter Teresa, center, and his wife Eleanor at his hotel Biltmore headquarters in New York following primary victory in New York State.   A family spokesman says, McGovern, the Democrat who lost to President Richard Nixon in 1972 in a historic landslide, has died at the age of 90. Say hello, Assad: See the Navy warships off the coast of Syria

The Navy has sent four warships — USS Ramage, USS Mahan, USS Gravely and USS Barry — armed with ballistic missiles into the eastern Mediterranean Sea amid violence in Syria. Navy ships are capable of a variety of military actions, including launching Tomahawk cruise missiles as they did against Libya in 2011.
