In a 1977 photo provided by County Records, Sen. Robert C. Byrd, West Virginia Democrat, posed in front of the capitol building with his fiddle. The photo will adorn the cover of a re-issue of an album produced by Mr. Byrd called "Mountain Fiddler." Mr. Byrd won his first race, for the state's House of Delegates, in 1946, distinguishing himself from 12 rivals by singing and fiddling mountain tunes. He died Monday, June 28, 2010 at the age of 92.
