According to the Boston Globe, team sources "expressed concern that [Terry] Francona's performance may have been affected by the use of pain medication." The Globe released a 2,500-word, front-page article reporting on what went wrong during the Red Sox's September collapse. When asked if he was "distracted," Francona told the paper: "It makes me angry that people say these things because I've busted my (butt) to be the best manager I can be.
