

Gerard F. Laredo, 84, cabdriver
Gerard Francis Laredo, a longtime D.C. cabdriver, died Oct. 4 at his home in College Park after a long illness. He was 84.
Born in New York City, Mr. Laredo came to the District in the late 1930s. In 1939, he graduated from Western High School, which is now the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
He drove a taxi in the District for 20 years.
Mr. Laredo ran for D.C. Council in the late 1960s. In 1985, he was recognized by the National Republican Congressional Committee for his support of President Reagan during his re-election campaign.
Mr. Laredo was appointed to Prince George’s County Board of Supervisors of Elections in 1991.
He is survived by wife Sybil; son Jerry Laredo of Clear Spring, Md.; daughter Dolores Bowen of Derwood; stepdaughters Betty Jean Blakeney of Herndon, and Margaret Welsh of Rockville; stepson Robert Welsh of San Diego; sister Lorraine McKeown of Beacon, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
