THE WASHINGTON TIMES

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference player of the week yesterday.

“It’s always an honor to win player of the week,” said Arenas, who has been so honored five times in his career. “I give a lot of credit to my teammates, who played an important role in helping me win this award. We were able to beat a very good Dallas team [last] week, and we won both of our games on the road, so it was a good week for our team.”

In leading Washington to a 3-1 record, including a 2-0 mark on the road, Arenas averaged a league-high 37.3 points. Arenas also averaged 5.5 assists and shot 51.5 percent from the floor while adding 18 3-pointers and eight steals to his league-leading season totals.
