Washington Redskins right tackle Jon Jansen will not play today against the Saints, the team announced yesterday before departing for New Orleans.

Jansen, who has been slowed by a calf injury for several weeks, did not practice this week and was downgraded to doubtful on Friday.

Veteran Todd Wade will start in Jansen’s place. Today’s game will be the first missed this season by a Redskins starting offensive lineman.

Aside from the 2004 season that Jansen missed with an Achilles’ tendon injury, today’s game is the first he has missed since joining the Redskins in 1999.
