Last night at Madison Square Garden in New York
Seen and heard
The PA announcer at Madison Square Garden began the proceedings on a curious note when he introduced Brandon Bowman as a 6-foot-9 senior forward from … Austin, Texas? Bowman, of course, is from Santa Monica, Calif., and the Hoyas never have featured a scholarship player from Austin. Interestingly, said PA announcer had perfect information on all the other relevant GU roster facts.
By the numbers
6 3-pointers hit in eight attempts by Georgetown fifth-year senior Darrel Owens, who had a game-high 24 points. Owens’ career game, a 26-point explosion in a season-ending NIT loss at South Carolina last year, had a similar couldn’t-miss feel. The 6-foot-6 swingman from Napoleanville, La., was 7-for-10 from deep in that one.
16-0 Georgetown run midway through the second half that turned a 55-54 gut-twister into a 71-54 laugher with 4:08 remaining. The keys to the run were the defensive intensity of point man Jon Wallace and walk-on forward Amadou Kilkenny-Diaw and the marksmanship of Darrel Owens, who scored 10 points during the run.
