Housing variety grows with community

The 50-block historic downtown section of Frederick draws thousands of visitors every year who sample the local restaurants and explore antiques stores and art galleries. Many are tempted to move here.

Frederick County has, over time, become a distant suburb of Washington. Towns and housing developments have grown along Interstate 270 leading from adjacent Montgomery County, as well as along Interstate 70, which continues on to Washington County and points west.

The majority of development in Frederick County is occurring near Frederick, the city that serves as county seat and provides a political, cultural and entertainment center.

Several builders are active in Frederick County, including Ryan Homes, Drees Homes Co., Classic Communities Corp., K. Hovnanian Homes , NVHomes and Pulte Homes Inc.

Ryan Homes is building town homes and single-family homes and town-home-style condominiums at several locations.

At Brookfield in Emmitsburg, about 20 minutes from Frederick, seven styles of single-family homes are offered, priced from the mid-$300,000s to the mid-$400,000s.

The rural atmosphere of the development is balanced by a location near shopping, dining and other recreational amenities, including Ski Liberty, Historic Gettysburg, Cunningham Falls and the Appalachian Trail.

The town homes, priced from the low $320,000s, feature brick fronts, finished basements, 9-foot ceilings and upgraded kitchens.

The single-family homes, priced from upper $500,000s to the low $600,000s, include fireplaces, brick fronts, 9-foot ceilings and upgraded baths.

Call 301/371-8097 for the single-family homes and 301/371-8086 for the town homes.

At the Villages of Urbana, a planned community with several builders offering new homes, a traditional hometown setting has been created with village shops, walking trails and parks.

Recreational amenities include a swimming pool, tot lots, tennis courts and playing fields. The community is located off I-270, between Frederick and the Montgomery County line.

Ryan Homes is offering nine styles of single-family homes at the Villages of Urbana, with base prices from the mid-$500,000s to the mid-$600,000s.
