SEEN AND HEARD
After two seasons and a sixth-place finish in the world championships, Glen Hanlon's tenure as coach of the Belarus national team has ended. Hanlon said yesterday it was not fair to keep the country waiting for him to make a decision every spring depending on how the Caps were doing. And besides, he said, he hadn't had any time off because of the extra job. He is being replaced by former Atlanta coach Curt Fraser.
OVECHKIN WATCH
Alex Ovechkin scored twice in Washington's second game of the season, but tighter defenses have shut him down since. The left wing had scored in just one of 10 games this season, including four preseason contests.
Until last night, that is. Against Atlanta, he was fighting for space at the left corner of the net when he tapped in a loose puck for his third goal of the season. At this time last season, he had four goals.
BY THE NUMBERS
6 Straight games with a point for Chris Clark, a personal best, after an assist on Dainius Zubrus' second-period goal last night. Clark has played 362 NHL games, but this is by far his strongest start. Ovechkin opened last season with points in eight straight games.
