The next U.S. Ryder Cup captain should select Michelle Wie with one of his two wild-card picks. She’s got more guts than most of the so-called men sent to Ireland. Are you listening, Lefty?
The Rover doubts NBC picked up this particular visual nugget, but the SkySports broadcast provided the Rover’s most memorable Ryder Cup moment yesterday when it zoomed in on Ian Woosnam in the midst of the European victory celebration, which was a thing of Roman proportions.
At one point, the Welshman tipped up a magnum of champagne that would have whipped him in a wrestling match and completely misjudged the sudden-rush and fizz factors. The result was a nose-spewing eruption that unquestionably doused some unsuspecting fans below the clubhouse deck with bubbly. Woosie, who also belted down a pint of Guinness in one gulp to the delight of the crowd, was unquestionably besotted when he gave his speech at the closing ceremonies. The highlight of that slightly slurred address was Woosie’s claim that this week’s events represented the greatest victory in Europe’s history. Yeah, knocking off that Hitler guy was overrated.
