Postcard from Miami

It’s officially time to have the game played so everybody can go home.

Since arriving here Sunday night, I’ve seen the weather change from cool and overcast to sunny and steamy. I’ve seen Rex Grossman enhance his reputation as the next Mark Brunell (average quarterback who deals with the media like a diva). I’ve seen enough current NFL players to fill an entire roster (but only one Redskin, Troy Vincent) on radio and television row.

But now it’s finally time for the game. The threat of rain shouldn’t alter the outcome or the teams’ game plans.

Last year, I picked Seattle over Pittsburgh and remain convinced the Seahawks were the better team. This year, there’s no such debate. Indianapolis is better. Period. Outside of scoring on four returns, I can’t see a way the Bears can keep up with Peyton Manning and Co.

I’m obviously picking the Colts but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see the official score.

• The search for Katharine McPhee’s new album started — and ended — Thursday night in the Lincoln Road area of Miami Beach, at a Starbucks that also doubles as a music store. Because of my frequent mentions to McPhee this week, columnist Dan Daly suggested that I charge the CD on the Times’ corporate card and label it as, “Coffee with Katharine McPhee.” Alas, I paid for it myself. As for a review of the album, I’m giving it a B-plus.

• Yet another example of Super Bowl excess: Pepsi will be giving away a $100,000 pop can tomorrow night. The can is made of sterling silver and inlaid with diamonds, rubies and sapphires. In addition the winner will receive two Super Bowl tickets for life. Go to superbowl.com to enter the contest.
