Caps report

Last night at Verizon Center

SEEN AND HEARD

Newly acquired defenseman Milan Jurcina faced his former team for the first time, and there is an interesting misprint in his entry in the Boston media guide. Jurcina is a 23-year old right-handed shooter from Liptovsky-Mikulas, Slovakia, but his bio in the guide says he is a 27-year old left-handed shooter from London, Ontario. Those particulars do describe a former member of the Bruins franchise -- and quite the prominent one: former captain Joe Thornton, who was traded to San Jose in the middle of last season. ...

Caps coach Glen Hanlon finished his 14-year NHL career as a goaltender with Detroit. He joined the Red Wings in 1986-87, the same season as defenseman Dave Lewis, who is now the Bruins' coach.

"We had a lot of fun together," Hanlon said before the game. "He is a great man. I always knew when he was on the ice because he would back up and I would see Lewis right there [holding his hand about six inches in front of his face]."

BY THE NUMBERS

0 Players on the Bruins' active roster who entered the game with a positive plus-minus rating, the only team in the league with that dubious distinction. Among players who have played more than nine games with Boston, Marc Savard "leads" the team at minus-5.

OVECHKIN WATCH

Alex Ovechkin was held off the score sheet for the third consecutive game for the first time in his NHL career. He also has gone five games with collecting multiple points -- the second-longest such streak of the season (he went six games in November) for the Russian left wing.
