Washington Wizards forward Caron Butler was named Eastern Conference player of the week yesterday for the week that ended Sunday.

“This means a great deal to me because it’s my first player of the week honor,” said Butler, who is making a push to be named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team later this month. “We had a great week, and we won four tough games against quality opponents.”

In four victories, Butler averaged 23.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.8 steals. He made 26 of 27 attempts from the free throw line.

Butler is the second Wizards player to win the honor this season. Gilbert Arenas has won it three times and was named the conference player of the month for December.
