Officer, bystander hurt during police chase

A U.S. Park Police officer was injured after a police chase that ended early yesterday morning downtown.

Authorities said two plainclothes officers thought they saw a drug transaction under way at about midnight Tuesday in the Logan Circle area in Northwest. They approached the suspects, but they fled in a car, striking one of the officers.

Another Park Police car chased the vehicle.

The car being chased struck two parked vehicles before stopping on the sidewalk at the door of a Domino”s Pizza store in the 1300 block of L Street Northwest.

Two suspects were arrested in the case.

The officer is expected to recover. One person in a parked car was also injured but is expected to recover.

4 men arrested in Metro lot thefts

Metro Transit Police have arrested four men suspected of breaking into more than 50 vehicles parked last month at the Franconia-Springfield station.

Police said the men broke into 52 cars and stole more than 100 items, including a sport utility vehicle, Global Positioning System devices and car televisions.

A Metro police commander said two officers spotted three of the suspects breaking into cars in late June.

Police arrested Maurice Conyers, 22, Randy Smith, 19, and Kevin Wilson, 22, all of the District; and Darryl Walker, 20, of Hagerstown, Md.
