How did you get started in real estate? I decided to make a complete career/lifestyle change after the birth of my son. Prior to that, I had a successful corporate marketing career and served as principal of a marketing consulting firm, which required a fair amount of travel and long hours. Initially, I was lured to the real estate profession because I could have a more flexible work schedule that allowed for more family time. Second, I had a genuine interest. My husband and I began investing in real estate and doing condo conversions. Lastly, the timing was right. The market was on the upswing, and I saw an opportunity to leverage my extensive marketing experience, general business knowledge and professional networks.

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Appointed by Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty to the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC), the central planning agency for the federal government responsible for preserving the unique beauty of and enhancing the extraordinary historical, cultural and natural resources of the nation’s capital and surrounding counties in Virginia and Maryland. As a commissioner, my votes directly impact almost every major building project both in and around the Beltway. I am honored to serve in this capacity, which will run through 2011.

Highest-priced home sold: $1,700,000

Most memorable house: One of my clients purchased back her family’s home. Her great-great-grandparents had built the house, but during hard financial times, they were forced to sell the property. Several generations later, she was able to reclaim her family’s original property and create new memories with her own family for years to come. It was such a joyful, nostalgic transaction.

Worst experience: I once listed a home that appeared to be clearly in the hands of one family member. As we got close to settlement, I found out that, in fact, this property was a web of family legal matters, wills, promises and debt. Fortunately, I was able to leverage one of my closest friends and contacts at Paramount Title to work through the issues.
