“They spent so many years here in the big leagues with the ability to spin the ball and get some lefties out,” Acta said. “I believe that’s where [Traber‘s] comfort zone is probably, as a situational lefty. He can make a career out of it in the big leagues.”

The Nationals have needed Traber to start for the last two weeks, but they won’t need that any longer. An off-day today will allow Acta to reconfigure his rotation, with rookies John Lannan and Joel Hanrahan added to the mix. Traber will take two days off before returning to the relief role that might better suit him.

“I do whatever they tell me,” he said. “It’s not about want or anything. It’s about what they need rather than want. I don’t really care either way as long as they want me.”
