The Washington Times

Grand chances for sophisticated living

Some Maryland and Virginia counties surrounding Washington are listed among the wealthiest in the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s latest figures for median household income, issued in 2005.

This level of wealth, which reached a median household income of $91,184 for Howard County and $82,187 for Montgomery County, often translates into a desire for upscale housing.

Builders in both counties are developing homes that appeal to families with high incomes.

Some upscale homes are estate-style homes surrounded by acres of land. Others are sophisticated town homes and condominiums built with upgraded materials and offering a convenient location.

Hardwood, marble and ceramic tile floors are common in these more expensive homes, along with extensive woodwork, kitchens with professional-grade appliances and furniture-quality cabinetry, and splashy master bathrooms with the latest styles of showers and baths.

Here’s a look at a few new developments with homes priced at $900,000 and higher in Montgomery and Howard counties.
