Director Jonathan Demme probably is the only filmmaker to do justice to a character who peeled flesh off human heads (Hannibal Lechter in 1991’s “Silence of the Lambs) and to the rock band Talking Heads, the subject of his 1984 documentary “Stop Making Sense.” He’s in town today as an honoree for the Silverdocs documentary film festival at AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road, Silver Spring). At 1 p.m., he’ll present a new work on Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath, and he’ll be the focus of the 2007 Guggenheim Symposium at 6:30 p.m. Phone: 877/DOCS-TIX. Web:www.silverdocs.com.
