Metro bus argument ends with stabbing

A Bowie man has been charged in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on a Metro bus Thursday night.

Ronald Bastian, 44, is charged with first-degree attempted murder, transit police said. The incident occurred at about 4:45 p.m., near Benjamin Tasker Middle School.

Investigators say a man thought to be in his early 30s was stabbed several times in the stomach and leg. He is in critical condition at Prince George’s Hospital Center.

Witnesses say the incident was sparked by an argument between the two men. Once the stabbing occurred, the victim stumbled off the bus, followed by several other passengers and the driver.

Mr. Bastian surrendered to police a short time later.

The incident occurred aboard a B22 bus, which runs from the New Carrollton Metrorail station to Bowie State University. Transit police are reviewing tapes from a video camera aboard the bus.
