QB 17 JASON CAMPBELL

How acquired: Draft (2005)

The skinny: Campbell finished last season 2-5 as the starter but still earned a chance to run this offense. Unquestionably has a strong arm. Coaches love his pocket presence.

RB 26 CLINTON PORTIS

How acquired: Trade (2004)

The skinny: A giant question mark entering the regular season. Portis did not play in the preseason and barely practiced because of a tendinitis problem that began in May.

RB 46 LADELL BETTS

How acquired: Draft (2002)

The skinny: Betts merits mention as a starter because of the uncertainty surrounding Portis. He turned in five straight 100-yard games in Portis’ place last season.

WR 89 SANTANA MOSS

How acquired: Trade (2005)

The skinny: Moss’ numbers slipped sharply last season, but he’s looked good during the preseason. He can take over a game with his burst at the line and post-catch ability.

WR 82 ANTWAAN RANDLE EL

How acquired: Free agent (2006)

The skinny: Caught a career-low 32 passes last season. The Redskins desperately need him to become a No. 2 receiver defenses must respect.

TE 47 CHRIS COOLEY

How acquired: Draft (2004)

The skinny: Cooley’s been uncoverable in the preseason, and Campbell knows how to get him the ball quickly. He’s in for a career year and perhaps a Pro Bowl berth.

RT 76 JON JANSEN

How acquired: Draft (1999)

The skinny: He can handle a defensive end with no help and is more than capable in the run game. He drew eight penalties in 15 games last season.

RG 77 RANDY THOMAS

How acquired: Free agent (2003)

The skinny: Thomas’ knee was surgically repaired in June and required rest in training camp. If he goes down, the Redskins will suffer a steep drop-off in performance.

C 61 CASEY RABACH

How acquired: Free agent (2005)

The skinny: When the run game is going well, Rabach consistently gets to the second level of the field. In pass protection, he occasionally needs double-team help.

LG 63 PETE KENDALL

How acquired: Trade (2007)

The skinny: Acquired in a trade with the Jets on Aug. 24, Kendall represents an obvious upgrade on Todd Wade, Mike Pucillo and even Derrick Dockery.

LT 60 CHRIS SAMUELS

How acquired: Draft (2000)

The skinny: The four-time Pro Bowler missed most of camp with a sprained MCL. He hasn’t missed a game since 2003 and committed only two holding penalties last season.
