Aghhhh!!!!!!!!!!! The majority of Evangelicals are not bigots. They are a friend to Jews, Catholics and yes...even Mormons. I'm sure their are some who are bigots just like some Catholics who won't vote for Evangelicals...Jews who won't vote Catholic....Catholics who won't vote Jewish...or Mormons who won't vote Evangelical.

Wash. Times, to be fair and balanced you should report on why 95% of Mormons voted for Mitt Romney and how Huck, Mac, and Mitt split the evangelical vote. WHo are the bigots???? It seems the only Christian group people are allowed to criticize are the evangelicals. It seems like America is not free for religious people. Evangelicals are so-cons and Mitt flip-flopped on the issues so-cons hold dear. Since you don't want to admit Romney's flipflops since it makes him sound like John Kerry so they will blame it on evangelicals being bigots. Nice Try....People won't buy it. If Romney runs again...you can count the evangelicals to not vote for him...not because they are bigots...but because Romney favored media is getting the evangelicals so upset because they are accussed of being bigots when they are not.

A few statements from evangelicals don't make the argument that evangelicals are bigots true. It is like getting a couple white people saying they won't vote for Obama as evidence that whites are racists. Utah results...93% Romney, 5% John McCain, 3% Huck. Why isn't this reported in your article...HUH...This is not a fair and balanced article and your bias is no longer hidden.

Hmmm…. Be wary of any radical voice that claims to speak for everybody in a particular group.

To the author: Sir, I am truly sorry that you are so confused. Governor Huckabee is not a bigot at all. The closest thing to bigotry in him I have seen is a simple, innocent question he once asked a reporter: "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?" They were already on the topic of religion. If you read the quote in context you'll see that he wasn't attacking Romney, merely asking a question. Sir, perhaps you will also remember that in the Republican primaries, Governor Romney got about 95% of the mormon vote. Please consider: isn't that "pro-mormon" bigotry? As to my opposition to Governor Romney - it is not based on his religion (although I do wish he would become a Christian,) it is based on his record. He has flip-flopped on a virtual smorgasbord of issues, including, but not limited to: abortion, gay rights (ENDA), a marriage amendment, and several gun rights (the Brady Bill and a federal assaults weapon ban.) He paints himself as a second Reagan, yet he once said "I'm not trying to return to Reagan-Bush." From all the research I've done, He certainly seems like a liberal with a Republican face-lift. Take a look one of his OLD campaign ads paid for by the Log Cabin Republicans: http://njmccain.blogspot.com/2007/10/romney-im-not-trying-to-return-to.html Thank you for reading this.

RedCentral: Huckabee and McCain didn't spend a dime courting Mormons (not to mention that Huckabee exposed himself as a Mormon hater and McCain thought his mother's anti-mormon comment about Mormons was pretty funny) that is why Mormons did not vote for them. Refusing to vote for someone that is a hater is not bigotry it is common sence. Romney, on the other hand, courted, and continous to do so, to evangelicals and that is why some evangelicals voted for him. Moreover, you should take your frustraion out on headline making anti-mormon "evangelic leaders" who give all Evangelicals a bad rap as bigots rather than taking it out on their victoms(e.g., Romney).

Speepdecay, Huck didn't have to pander to Mormons. Mormons are strong social conservatives and would support Huck. It was the media and articles like this one that caused this anger. Huck didn't say anything bad about Mormons. Heck, my relatives are Mormons and I would vote for them in a heartbeat. A member of Romney's staff said that the reason why they lost Iowa was the overwhelming turnout of Christians. That is blaming us and I find that offensive...It is because of Mitt's flip-flops on social issues that I didn't vote for him. My mormon cousins also didn't vote for him and thought it was a shame that he was once pro-choice because the Mormon church has strong pro-life values.

I wish the Rombots would get over themselves, nobody voted against Romney because of his religion but because he was unauthentic and he had no core values. The same reason I will not vote for a McCain/Romney ticket, because Romney is clearly a man who does not know what he believes, so he will pander to what ever constituency he needs to secure votes without ever really sharing there values about an issue. I could careless if all the Romney backers in the world came out and called all evangelicals bigots it's not going to get them to change there mind about Mitt. It's time to face the facts, people didn't support Mitt because he has a trust problem on some core issues.

I wonder if we will see any rebuttals from the other side of this issue? I am guessing no. I think everyone knows exactly who this organization supports. The question is why? And why would they go to such lengths to slander a group of people who they claim are slandering another group of people? Is that not a big ol' case of hypocrisy?

So now it has come to pass, the day when we can no longer criticize a public official for any reason without fear of being labeled a bigot, a racist, or a sexist. If this all sounds familiar, well it should, this is what the Liberals have been pushing for, for decades. The funny thing is, I do not hear the same uproar when the criticism is focused on the Christian community. Are they the only group that is "fair game"? http://conservativeoasis.blogspot.com/2008/07/evangelicals-bigoted-against-romney.html

The Wash. Times are trying to avoid Romney's flip-flop record by blaming evangelicals. Romney is the GOP's John Kerry and a weak candidate. John McCain was right when he said, "Mitt, you are right. You are the candidate of change."
Mark as offensive

RedCentral

I know several people who wrote a Letter to the Editor and were defending evangelicals as non-bigots who were against Mitt because of his wishy-washy positions on social issues, not because he is Mormon, But I guess the Wash. Times refuses to publish those Letters and are one-sided on this.

As a Mormon, I can verify that Mormons have never had any qualms whatsoever about voting for an Evangelical. We do disagree on some religious issues, but agree on others. There are some Evangelicals that will be more inclined to emphasize our points of agreement including some fairly significant social beliefs - and there will be some Evangelicals that will want to point out our differences. I do not feel inclined at all to say what Evangelicals should call themselves. Let them call themselves Christians, Followers, Disciples, Theists, whatever they would like. It is how they live their lives that is most important to me. Except for a small minority of bad apples that are present in every religion (including my own), Evangelicals are a good community of people clearly trying to live right.

Mr. Mecham - I am in complete agreement with you in that it is only a very small bigoted minority of evangelical Christians that are causing trouble by behaving as bullies. I am an evangelical who voted for Romney, as did my Baptist sister and a number of folks I know. Sadly, I have encountered many hateful anti-Mormon evangelicals on various blogs. This small rabid bigoted group reminds me of the liberals. Liberals are a small segment of the Democratic party, yet they are bullies that demand that all moderates abide by their agenda. These extreme groups, whether extreme right or extreme left never seem to learn that mainstream society will NOT vote them into the White House. How many elections have the Dems lost due to nominating liberal candidates?! This huckabee-loving anti-Mormon group could learn a lot from the Dems as to what happens when a small rabid group tries to dictate how our nation will be governed. It is way past time for the bigots to get a clue!!!

Why is the media so bent on painting Mike Huckabee's supporters as anti-Mormon when that couldn't be further from the truth. Lieberal media is working their mischief on the republican party by trying to divide us. While there is probably a very small % of the population that would be against Romney for his Mormon faith, the same % would be against Huckabee for having been, almost 20 yrs. ago a minister, against Hillary for being a woman running for president, against Obama as a black man or McCain for his age. Sorry to say, prejudice is not totally dead in our society and probably never will be, but it is NOT the mainstream, certainly NOT with Huckabee supporters and we take OFFENSE with this repeated attack on our character. Why do you only publish this one sided view and when we send rebuttals, they are NEVER published? This is very biased and unfair. If there is any bigotry in Washington against any sector, IM sorry to say, it appears to be against evangeicals and not Mormons.....
