Hey! We actually got a Pro-Huckabee letter printed? Holy Cow! Stop the presses. I guess 3-1 against is not quite as bad or will we see two more positive rebuttals printed? Thanks Linda!
Linda Rayborn's letter is right on, and we are all in her debt for telling it like it is, rather than like some people wish it were.
You hit a home run Linda!!! Nicely said & thanks for standing up for Mike Huckabee and all us Huck supporters!!!
Superwow! You said it all, Linda.
thank you for setting the record straight and for taking a stand for what is right
Way to go Linda!!!! It seems that the Wash. Times couldn't stand reading all the pro-huck comments. You did awesome and you were the "somebody doing the something."
Good job! This article is right on target.
Linda describes him perfectly---pompous, wooden, plastic, an elitist. During the primaries JibJab portrayed him perfectly as the gameshow host from the Muppets. That's exactly what I think when I see him. Looks good, sounds good, but ultimately he's just "hosting". If you look close enough you're apt to see the cue cards (or teleprompter nowadays).
Great article! I'm glad to see that the Times printed at least one of the letters they've received in response to the offensive editorial they published on Sunday, and the equally offensive letter to the editor they published today (Tuesday).
Not liking Romney doesn't make me a bigot.
Not liking Obama doesn't make me a racist.
Finally somebody puts the facts out about Willard, thank you Linda. I have come to the conclusion that Romney and his supporters think that Catholics, Jews, Muslims, people of another faith or no faith at all are bigots if they don’t support Romney. They believe there is no reason not to support him so if you don’t you must be a bigot, unfortunately for them everybody sees that they are using the bigot card only for sympathetic reasons and instead of sympathy I think most are starting to have resentment.
According to U.S. Census Bureau statistics for the year 2001, there were 207,980,000 adults in the U.S. and only 2,787,000 who described themselves as either LDS or Mormon. That's just 1.3% of the population. Quite a vocal bunch!

Romney is by far the most qualified and presidential of the candidates for this election. As an evangelical, I voted for him because he is a man of good character and judgment which is of great importance to me.
Regarding the polls, huckabee lead when Dems were included; when only Repubs were polled, Romney won! Who cares what the Dems say--they'll be voting for Obama anyway.
Romney was free to send his delegates anywhere he wanted to after he dropped out JUST AS Huckabee had the right to send his delegates anywhere he wanted when he dropped out.
Romney dropped out when he realized he had no chance and immediately pledged his support to McCain (something he, ironically, has been HEAVILY critized for doing by Huckabee supporters in comments section over the last few days) while Huckabee stayed in the race far past the date when he was a viable candidate costing McCain additional moneys to campaign against him and, to my knowledge, has been lukewarm, at best, in helping McCain.
I seriously doubt either Huckabee or Romney will be the VP candidate, but, if McCain picked ANYONE over Huckabee who could blame him? Huckabee has done precious little to support McCain's efforts at getting elected.
As countless people have stated in these forums over the last few days, the evangelical vote is split. If Huckabee has done little in support of McCain and can't guarantee the evangelical vote, why should McCain pick him for VP?

HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA..HA
"I saw my father march with Martin Luther King." (Romney's campaign later admitted that they didn't march on the same day, or in the same city)
"PETA is not happy that my dog likes fresh air." --on strapping his dog to the top of the car
"It was an air-tight kennel" - since when do dogs hold their breath for 12 hours?
"My sons are all adults and they've made decisions about their careers and they've chosen not to serve in the military and active duty and I respect their decision in that regard. One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president."
"I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I've been a hunter pretty much all my life." (Romney's campaign later said he'd been hunting twice, once when he was 15, and once in 2006 at a Republican fundraiser
"I'm not a big-game hunter. I've made that very clear. I've always been a rodent and rabbit hunter. Small varmints, if you will."
"Hugo Chavez has tried to steal an inspiring phrase 'Patria o muerte, venceremos.' It does not belong to him. It belongs to a free Cuba." --invoking a phrase that translates to "Fatherland or death, we shall overcome," which Fidel Castro has used to close his speeches for years, and which is associated with Cuban oppression
"Well, the question is kind of a non sequitur, if you will. And what I mean by that -- or a null set." --after being asked during a Republican debate whether is was a mistake to invade Iraq
"We should double Guantanamo!"

"I am Pro-life"
"I am Pro-choice and will not change Massachusett's Pro...Choice laws"
"I do not wish to be labeled Pro-choice or Pro-life"
"I am Pro-life"
This list goes on forever and ever. Character my ass!

Hmmmm, last time I checked, Dems get to vote in the General Election too.
most qualified???
“During the four years Mitt Romney was governor of Massachusetts, it had the second worst jobs record of state in America.” “But for the destruction of New Orleans, Massachusetts under Romney would have come in dead last.” (Boston Herald 2/21/07)
Oyea we need him bad, NOT
Shelbysez,
How can you call Romney the most qualified when he only had 4 years of political experience compared to Huckabee's 13 1/2 years experience? Huckabee was Lt. Gov. for 3 years and Gov. for 10 1/2 years. Both served in Democratic majority states. The difference is that Huckabee worked with them to get things done improving many things including moral values issues; with a high approval rating and would have been re-elected if not for term limits. Romney left the morality of his state worse off and would not have been re-elected because of his high disapproval rating.
You said that Republicans like Romney better than Huckabee. Both had very similar approval ratings among Republicans in their home states as Governors. Romney's approval rating among Republicans was 73% compared to Huckabee's 71%. http://www.surveyusa.com/50State2006/50StateGovernor060412Approval.htm (Click on the state name for the breakdown) According to the Rasmussen Report of the VP poll; Romney beat Huckabee by a whopping 1% favorable rating among the Republicans polled. That cannot make up for the huge deficit in Romney's unapproval ratings. Rasmussen said Huckabee ended up with an overall rating with a +8. Which was the highest of all the VP choices polled. By comparison, Romney ended up with a -6.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/huckabee_lieberman_have_highest_favorables_among_possible_mccain_veep_choices That 1-2% difference in the approval ratings would mean a lot more if America were only made up of Republicans. America is made up of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents; so we need politicians that are willing to do what's best for all of us.
Some people of all Parties like Huckabee's consistent stand on the moral values issues and his populist message. Those were 2 of Reagan's strongest selling points, too.
My Independent sister and die-hard Democrat Dad have both said they WILL vote for McCain IF he chooses Huckabee as his VP. People like them are why it's important to keep polling members of all the political parties.
Mike Huckabee realizes that penalizing productivity sinks the economy. That is why he refused to allow taxes on income to be raised. I agree with him that the FairTax should be implemented. Jobs would stay home and many would come back home if manufacturing wasn't taxed here. Only the misinformed would believe that taxing those that produce the jobs at a higher rate would help the economy. Don't they realize that they would then have to use the money they were using to pay employees to pay for the tax increases?
