Particulars of this case aside, I sincerely hope that the FBI will NOT use it's IC3 IT techs to do the forensics work on this persons computers, but will instead use either the Secret Service computer forensics specialists, or even better, take advantage of the DC3 initiative between the DoD and DHS. The FBI has demonstrated time and time again that while it does many many things better than anyone else in the Universe, Computer forensics is NOT to be counted among it's strengths. Not only are the specialists tasked over from DC3 the best in the world at this category of forensic work, using a lab outside the bureau's political control would deflect the predictable charges by political muck rakers who take every opportunity to chop at the bureau's knees that no bureaucratic tampering to protect the Bureau was going on behind closed doors.
After all the manhours logged into this case, the FBI should go the extra mile to make sure there are no questions about procedure, even if this requires some humility over at the Bureau and the use of outsiders to handle the Computer Forensics.
