The Washington Times seems to work very hard to deny the existence, growth and increasing influence of independent anti-partisan voters. It was independents who went to the polls in open-primary states to make sure that maverick John McCain was not sidelined by the Repub establishment, and that newcomer Barack Obama was not bulldozed by the Clinton machine. Take your blinders off! Yes, Washington, there is life beyond the parties! Check out independentvoting.org...
Sorry Hankster, the post-partisan mantra was working for a while, but once we pull the covers back on the policies behind it, we are not so surprised to find of all things, partisanship. McCain won the primaries because he was the best man in the field.
The real question is just how many of these so-called independents are ex-republicans, and how many of them already know who they are voting for. I am an independent but there is no question that I will be voting McCain come November. Let's not confuse independent with undecided.
There are plenty of independents like myself who are ex-republicans so disgusted with the party there is no chance I will vote for any republican candidate in tre near future.
KC,
But you'd vote for tax raising, 2nd amendment banning, anti rich, pacifist, anti american democrats?
I can understand if you abstain from voting, or vote for Bob Barr or even Ron Paul (chuckle). But if you are voting Obama in November then perhaps you were not so Republican in the first place.
As a independent, I can understand your frusteration with the GOP of late. Their rule from 2001-2006 was dreadful, Bush has actually gotten worse in the last 6 months, it's a disgrace I tell you. But that doesn't mean that I now support Dem policies. I don't, I won't I can't! (Yes you can!) No, I really can't.
But if you can seriously bring yourself to voting for Obama, then perhaps your convictions on the GOP policies were not so strong to begin with. That's the point I was making, and I think it's true.
