If Putin achieves his objectives he will be able to intimidate his way into the 2014 Winter Olympics and the G-8. Russia is energy independent. Europe is not and the U.S. can't help. Russia is depending on receding U.S. primacy and is following the principle of entropy to fill in the or force the U.S. vacuum. It's going to be an interesting winter.
The Russians have finally regathered some strength and are taking advantage of a failed Clinton presidency. When Clinton used a chain saw to shrink the size of the military, it created a shortage of available military power. Bush had about twelve months to begin to correct the problem and he wasted that time. I doubt this will be the last time the world feels the pain from Clintons idiotic cuts to the military.
