How much control the Russians will release will be the indicator of Sarkozy's peace negotiations. If the Russians maintain control of the pipeline to Turkey, their objective will have been met and Sarkozy's negotiations will simply be protocol without substance, especially for the EU. Putin can leverage energy as a weapon to force European NATO countries to isolate anyone the Russians choose and limit the growth of NATO.
