"He said advances in trauma treatment have allowed patients who previously would have died at the scene to survive longer."
Couldn't this actually be a sign of divine intervention and not superior medical care? After all, we really don't know WHY one patient survives while anther doesn't despite the insistence of doctors that it was THEIR miracle and not God's. The medical community seems, well, hell bent on proving that it wasn't divine intervention that "saved" a patient, it was themselves who performed that miracle. Doctors seem to want their patients (and everyone else, for that matter) to replace their faith in one deity, God, with another, Doctors.
If God created the "Natural Laws" which apply universally (i.e. what goes up, must come down, etc), why would God go around making a bunch of exceptions to these very same Natural Laws?
Dr. Sise is a Catholic doctor who knows the difference between credible medical outcomes and unrealistic belief in miracles. The Catholic position on miracles seems to be complex. On the one hand before anyone can be declared a saint, careful investigation has to reveal that he/she has performed at least a few miracles but on the other the Church recognizes that there are many spurious miracles.
A skeptic may wonder how the late Pope John Paul could perform miracles for others but could not cure himself of Parkinson's. The question is more complex than might appear on the surface.
Here is another example of a problem in the USA...HUBRIS! The doctors have it in bucket loads and the people have it, as well...first off, the doctors are NOT God...they are body mechanics, plain and simple, working on something they do NOT completely understand...and second, God is NO RESPECTER OF PERSON...he saves who he wishes and that is that...we are not big enough and never will be to understand the exact motives of God Almighty, but we should still pray that a miracle will happen...anyway, the docs should do their job to help people to their maximum extent, people should pray and hope and we'll all find out what happens on that Judgement Day!
