Excellent artcle by Brian Binley. The U.S. has a duty to protect the PMOI since it had signed an agreement with them to do so in exchange for them handing over all their weapons in Iraq. If the U.S. doesn't want to protect them, it should give them back their weapons for self protection from the Iranian regime's terrorists.

With pleasure I read this article by Brian Binley MP in which he clearly illustrates the unjust and corrupt policy between Iran and Iraq. The 4000 Iranian intellectuals and members of the PMOI in Ashraf City have been struggling for 2 decades to get rid of the present rulers in Iran. They have already received the support of 5,2 million Iraqis that stated that they are the only hope of Iran, Iraq and the rest of the Middle East to bring about freedom and peace in that region. They are the main barrier against the mullahs spread of Islamic fundamentalism and we must now demand international human rights organisations to reaffirm their status as protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Conventions to ensure their safety and security in Iraq.

Great article! Very informative.I hope US wakes up soon and smell the roses! before it get too late. We can not afford another Islamic Rebuplic in Middle-east. I would like to read more from this writer.

Mr. Binley is here raising an issue of grave importance. I had never known the breath of the PMOI's positive contribution in Iraq. Humanitarian and legal justifications for protecting the group notwithstanding, we can not afford losing the support of the Secular Sunnis in Iraq. In recent days, the awakening council leaders in Diyala province have been targeted by terrorists. Clearly, Iran is doing what it can to intimidate the secular leaders in the province so as to weakening PMOI support and undermine coalition efforts. Mr. Binley informs us that the PMOI is an asset to the cause of democracy in Iraq and an ally of the US. In its endeavor to encourage democracy, freedom, and the rule of law in the Middle East, the U.S. must be a vigilant supporter of the other regional champions (of these causes), namely the PMOI. The free world must also support and encourage the U.S. in this difficult path. Mr. Binley of the U.K. has certainly offered great suggestions.

I read your article and fully support your views. MEK and Mojahedin in Ashraf City are freedom fighters, and they are the main opposition against the Mullahs regime. They are the only ones to free Iran from the Mullahs without causing war. We should strongly support them and we must do something to protect them from Mullahs Regimes and their partners.

Mr. Binley has provide us with a range of solid reasons why protection of Ashraf residents is beneficial to all parties involved. All parties that is except the ruling theocracy in Tehran. The listing of PMOI/MEK as a terrorist organization in US, with the goal of “supporting the moderates in Iran through engagement” was, and continues to be as “perverse” and “unlawful” in U.S. as it has now proven to have been in Europe. The eight years of Khatami's presidency, which was the starting point for labeling PMOI as a terrorist organization, and all the other carrots that were offered to Tehran resulted in nothing but the coming to power of Ahmadinejad. A perfect front for the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei who is running things in the background and has been leading their efforts to acquire Nuclear arsenals. The organization that I belong to, along with its sister organizations throughout the United stats have long been stressing the fact to our representatives in the Congress that our U.S. Department of State must correct its fallacious policy and remove PMOI/MEK's name from the Foreign Terrorist Organization's list. We are now also pointing out to them that when it comes to Camp Ashraf, If Multi-National Coalition Forces in Iraq turn over the protection of Ashraf City to Iraq, International Laws pertaining to the Geneva Conventions and Non-refoulement principles will be broken and Iran will be given an opportunity to massacre the approximately 3500 residents of this camp. Do we really want to stand by and let 3500 more be added to the more than120,000 of Tehran's opponent the Ayatollahs have executed since 1981? No, no and no. United State Congress ought to step in and ensure that U.S. Forces in Iraq do not break any International Laws and continue protection of Camp Ashraf. Excellent article by Mr. Binley. He describes exactly what the capabilities of the Ashraf residents are to bring about democratic change in Iran, together with the Iranians inside the country. It is not strange that these Ashraf people are in a dangerous situation, regarding the policy of the Iranian regime at the moment, whose clerics have no way out anymore and use now every method they have to suppress and humiliate more people to delay the fall of their leadership. That is why we have to help the members of the Iranian Resistance (MEK/PMOI) in Ashraf now to assure their refugee status in Camp Ashraf and prevent that the Iranian regime will get control over them which will pave the mullahs way to massacre all of them.

I was happy to read this informative piece of Brian Binley. It is obvious that there is no other alternative to stabilize the Middle East than these opponents of the Iranian regime, who have educated Iranians and Iraqis about the threat of the mullahs. I was shocked to hear that due to a conspiracy between the Iraqi government and the ayatollahs in Iran, these 4000 members, included 1000 women, face an extradition to Iran which will mean that they will be executed immediately. I have no doubt that the Iranian regime sees all PMOI personnel as their only threat and cause of all their problems and that is a reason more to take action against this injustice and save these people’s lives.

Ashraf Camp the beacon of hope for humanity Giving the protection of Ashraf , The beacon of Iranian people hope, the aspiration of millions of Iraqi people for a democratic future without Islamic extremist (70,000 Iranians gathered in Paris to support Ashraf on June28th 2008, and 5,200,000 Sunni Iraqis supported Ashraf, 3,000,000 Shia Iraqis supported Ashraf), the key holder of most viable solution to Middle East peace and stability, is a historical crime to be remembered for and referred to for generations to come. Indeed, MEK as the major opposition to Mullahs has been leading the Iranian resistance against the fascist regime in Iran for more than twenty years. They have been mostly residing in Camp Ashraf area for more than twenty years. Iranian resistance and it champion MEK is truly carried the torch of most viable solution for a democratic, secular Iran, and a peaceful, stable Middle East. As protected persons, camp Ashraf has been under the protection of multi-national forces since 2004. Relinquishing the responsibility of camp Ashraf protection to a pro-Iranian government in Iraq, is not only a castrophe in human life but also is the closure of the last viable solution to Iran Mullahs dilemma, which adversely affects the entire citizens of the world. Supporting Iranian resistance and residents of camp Ashraf is not only the right humanitarian thing to do but also it is the most intelligent solution for Middle Eastern and the entire world community to pursue. And thank Mr. Bin Binley for raising this humanitarian crisis.

It is time that we back our true friends in the region. PMOI has been instrumental in exposing the atrocities of the pro-Iranian agents in Iraq and as such have provided great service to the US and coalition forces. They are the key elements that the mullahs in Iran fear. We need to support them whole heartedly if we want to have a table region.

No Mr.Binley. Ahmadinejad foes need The People's Mujaheedin of Iran (PMOI)'s shield like a hole in the head. I am afraid no amount of whitewash will change this terrorist cult into a viable opposition to the Non Islamic Non-republic Non-Iranian Fascist Mullahs of Mashad, Ghom and Tehran. These traitors are universally hated by all Iranians opposed to the mullah's regime. They are a terrorist organisation and have no place in opposition cadres fighting for the over throw of the IRI.

Brian Binley's analysis is spot on. Iran support for terrorist entities in Iraq and the wider Middle East is currently not only the greatest threat to the lives of Coalition troops, but in fact the greatest threat to peace and stability as we know it. The work of the individuals has been incredible in acting as the strongest barrier against Iran's fundamentalist threat in Iraq. 5.2 million Iraqis support Ashraf City as a source of freedom and democracy. The safety of Ashraf City must be paramount for the Coalition as the greatest barrier against Iran's influence in the region. Support Ashraf City and the PMOI as the only solution for freedom.

Mr. Binley is dead on, MEK is the only hope the world as a whole and Coalition forces specifically have in Iraq if they want to stop Iranian regime meddling in the Iraqi's affairs. The Coalition forces should remove all restrictions from Ashraf city residence and allow them to educate Iraqi general public regarding true nature of Iranian regime. THank you for your artical.

I want to thank the editor to pay attention to this important issue in which the lives of about 4000 Iranian dissidents are in danger. As I have members of my family residing in Camp Ashraf, I am seriously concerned about the security of these PMOI personnel. If the security will be handed over from the coalition forces to the hands of the Iraqi government, it will be easy for the mullahs regime in Iran to take over their control and eliminate all those freedom-loving Iranians that have struggled for more than 20 years for freedom. It is the task of the multi-national forces and human rights organizations to stop this human catastrophe.

This properly analytical article is an objective overview of the situation in Iraq. It would be truly shameful if the U.S. government overlooks the international laws, the advice of his commanders in the field and most importantly the voice of Iraqi people who’re loudly spelling out the “PMOI” as the only solution to stop the Iranian terrorism in Iraq and the Middle East. The long repulsive legacy of the Clinton’s administration to appease the Mullahs has to end now and the United States must side with the Iranian people to bring democratic change to their country. The U.S. must commit to its obligation and protect the PMOI in Iraq instead of budging to Qods infested government of Nuri-al-Maleki.
