The Bill of Rights protection of the right to petition is just as important as any of the our other freedoms. Until we see the presidential candidates acknowledging that lobbying is a freedom not a crime we know that they are hiding behind some sort of demagoguery in an unskillful attempt to deceive the people. Lobbying has been misused in our political system. Misused not by lobbyists but by Congress. Until the candidates acknowledge this, they are guilty of deceiving the public and clearly have little or no intention of trying to solve the real problem. I believe that it is not, and never has been their intention to take on this very divisive issue. It is merely a political football used to attract the public’s attention from the real issue. At least, we can be certain that McCain is guilty of attempted deception. It may be that Obama, in his innocence, really does believe that lobbying is an evil thing and not a Constitutionally protected freedom.
