How does his crowd of hundreds compare to that of Obama's thousands? Great try but not very journalistic... Try another angle..

Kudos to Archbishop Chaput for his public stance against Senator Joe Biden and other pro-choice Catholics who pander to the Democrat base. Biden, Pelosi, Obama, the Clintons: they all refuse to believe what their Churches teach - life begins at conception. Abortion is the killing of an unborn child. It is intrinsically evil. Any public figure who professes otherwise commits a grave sin, and he or she compounds that sin by receiving Communion.

The issue of abortion is the slavery of our time; Row v Wade is the Dredd Scott v Sandford. How interesting that Alveda King should align herself with the Archbishop even as the DNC is pounding their chests. When Barack Obama speaks tonight with all the references that he will make to Dr. King's "I have a Dream", how many will wonder about what MLK would have said of the nominee? Fortunately we as a nation no longer judge people by the color of their skin. Unfortunately we seem to still ignore the content of people's character. Not that Barak is a bad person, he seems very warm and congenial, but has the color of his skin blinded people to the facts that he is also an abortist in civil arena, a socialist in the economic arena, and a defeatist in the defense arena. That is the trifecta of doom for our nation.

Last I read the Archbishop was against workplace raids for illegal workers. Maybe he will steal the spotlight from the Repubs as well.

The most basic duty of any government -- the primary reason for government in the first place -- is this: To Protect the Weak and Defenseless from the Strong and Powerful. This idea is even embodied in our Declaration of Independence, to wit: "We hold these truths to be SELF-EVIDENT, that ALL men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are LIFE, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men..." I don't know of any person more weak and defenseless than an unborn child. Yet, the Democratic Party deliberately and proudly refuses to see that they are failing to uphold the most basic duty entrusted to them: to Protect the Weak and the Defenseless. This is worse than Hypocrisy -- it is Evil; pure and simple. God made man in His image. Abortion is nothing less than the work of Satan to come against the image of God. Woe to all who join him in this evil work. It's painfully obvious after 35 years of Roe v. Wade that a vote for a Democrat is a vote for abortion. Until they change their party platform on abortion, I can NEVER, in good conscience, vote for one of them -- no matter what else they may stand for.

Hey tzoller: No "angle" involved. Here's the point: the crowd of hundreds, who are on the side of LIFE, get as much attention as the crowd of thousands, who are on the side of DEATH. And that's what's bothering you. -------------------------- By: tzoller How does his crowd of hundreds compare to that of Obama's thousands? Great try but not very journalistic... It seems that Senator Obama is described as having one of the most extreme positions that one can find when it comes to the issue of abortion….Normally, I can understand a lawyer’s dancing on the head of a pin for the sake of not wanting to undermine a future legal argument or position. However, regarding Senator Obama, some other details give me pause and raise questions about whether his stated motivation(s) can be trusted. "Refrain from presenting himself for Communion"? How about refusing to offer Communion to abortion advocates?? How about standing up to these leftists instead of coddling them? The Church fell in with liberals in the '60's when the anti-war, anti-US sentiment was at it's peak, but didn't realize that Liberalism is a religion and abortion is it's prime sacrament. Now the church can't untangle itself from this tar baby.

Way to go Archbishop Chaput... this is the leadership we desparately need in our society. This is bigger than politics and Senator Joe Biden and other pro-choice Catholics simply are not representing "truth", only their warped versions of life to further their political ambitions. Away from me satan!!! Fortunately St. Peter will be the first to greet many, many Democrats and some weak Republicans someday......... and our loving God will forgive them..... of course, after they repent many times over in purgatory. Let em feel the heat Lucifer!!!! Ironically, today is the 45th anniversay of a pretty watershed moment in our civilization. It's ironic that MLK's "Dream" and my schoolteacher's(Sister Francis) pro-life lecture were both communicated so close to one another. Sister was right, you have to be born to enjoy "civil rights"!!! If Biden, Pelosi, Obama, and the Clintons embraced the beliefs of the values their Church's teachings (life begins at conception and any form of abortion is the killing of an unborn child), we would have real political justice. Any public figure who professes otherwise commits mortal sin and loses the grace of communion until he/she repents in the confessional. Now that felt good!!!!!

What do: Barack Obama Joseph Biden Nancy Pelosi Hillary & Bill Clinton John Kerry have in common? They have all sold their souls to Satan, all for the brief period of political power they will enjoy in this life. But, woe to them all....

Re: "Here's the point: the crowd of hundreds, who are on the side of LIFE, get as much attention as the crowd of thousands, who are on the side of DEATH." First of all, the Archbishop is simply not getting as much attention as the DNC. The media is not sending 50,000 jounalists to cover him. Secondly, I have never understood why people insist on demonizing those with whom they disagree. It doesn't advance your cause, it makes your job much more difficult. Telling someone who is pro-choice that they are a murderer, an agent of death, a baby-killer, in league with Satan, or going to Hell is not going to make them want to listen to your argument, it allows them to dismiss you and dig in their heels, making them exponentially more immovable in their position. And why in the world would you go after politicians? People don't follow politicians, politicians follow people! Every politician in either party aligns themselves with issues that they think will cause the majority of voters to vote for them. Why do you think they change their positions so much? Contrary to what many may think, pro-life folks are not sitting behind closed doors squealing with glee that they've finally found a way to murder babies without going to jail. They have real, honest reasons why they think it's important to have the right to choose to terminate a pregnancy. The fastest way to advance your agenda as pro-life folks is to LISTEN to these people, find out the REAL reasons why it's so important to them, and find a way to negate those reasons in a way that everyone can live with. Unfortunately, people on both sides of this issue are too obsessed with "being right" or "winning." Solving the problem falls by the wayside. Then, all you have left is the fight. If somebody doesn't smarten up, you'll be fighting for a loooooong time.

Archbishop Chaput was right on the mark! Abortion is taking away the life of a child.Since its legalisation( 1973) millions of babies have been aborted for economic means. That is truly a shame. To those who are PRO-CHOICE: Do you think you would have spoken your opinion today had your mothers chosen to ABORT you while in their womb? The LIBERAL DEMOCRATS would not have existed had they been aborted by their parents. That is a fact. This is what the LIBERALS FAIL TO SEE!!! "PRO-CHOICE" is a bunch of HOGWASH SPINNED by the LIBERALS!

"Shame on the Catholic Church for blackmailing their voters into voting for the Republican candidate." MG, 08-29-08 It's not blackmail, MG, but Catholic church leaders holding politicians and others to the faith they profess to believe. If a Catholic politician publicly admits s/he's pro-abortion, and actively supports abortion by votes and public speech, s/he's in direct opposition to Catholic teachings, and leaves him/herself open to public chastisement by church leaders. The Catholic position on abortion is a bedrock issue, and adherence to it cannot be compromised. If people, even private citizens, profess to be Catholic, yet support abortion, they are no longer Catholics in good standing, and cannot in conscience present themselves for any of the sacraments excepting reconciliation, to confess their sin, repent and turn back to the Church's teachings. It's even more serious when public figures such as Nancy Pelosi state untruths about Church teachings. These misstatements must be corrected publicly to keep the record straight. "It is time that Catholic leaders understand that in this country - the church and its followers share a nation with other people, with similar beliefs and common purpose however owe no allegiance to its constructs or will." MG, 08-29-08 Even clubs have rules by which members must abide, or be dismissed from the club. Catholic leaders admonish only their own flock, and must hold their members accountable. The Church offers its members a way to reconcile their differences (confession). If they do not wish to reconcile, they are free to join another faith community. No one is forced to be or remain a Catholic. If a Catholic disagrees on any such fundamental issues, they need to reassess their beliefs to decide if they coincide with what their Catholic faith teaches. If too much is at odds, they should change churches, not expect the Church to change.

To speck (and anyone else who wants to read, think and learn), re: your post at August 29, 2008 at 12:15 a.m. You have raised an interesting and valid point - about each of us trying to really see issues from the opposing point of view. In doing so, I think we are all enlightened. Here is an external link that describes this problem in far more eloquence than I possess. It takes 5 minutes to read. I encourage anyone who considers themselves to be a "truth seeker" to take 5 minutes to read this: http://tinyurl.com/5uvzz8 Grace.
