Safety Chris Horton, a seventh-round pick this year, appears safe to make the team. (Peter Lockley/The Washington Times)Here’s a look at some key position battles with final cuts needed less than 48 hours after the final preseason game:
WIDE RECEIVER
Safe: Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El, James Thrash, Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas
On the bubble: Billy McMullen
In trouble: Anthony Mix, Horace Gant, Maurice Mann
Skinny: McMullen is in a similar situation as Mason, although the injuries that have slowed Kelly and Thomas could help him.
OFFENSIVE LINE
Safe: Chris Samuels, Jon Jansen, Pete Kendall, Randy Thomas, Casey Rabach, Stephon Heyer, Chad Rinehart, Jason Fabini
On the bubble: Justin Geisinger, Andrew Crummey, Todd Wade
In trouble: Devin Clark, Fred Matua, Tavares Washington
Skinny: Probably only one spot for one of the players trying to be the backup center or Wade, who has missed most of camp with an ankle injury.
LINEBACKERS
Safe: London Fletcher, Marcus Washington, Rocky McIntosh, H.B. Blades, Khary Campbell
On the bubble: Alfred Fincher
In trouble: David Holloway, Danny Verdun-Wheeler
